🛳️ Step off the ship and into the heart of Tairāwhiti Gisborne with this unforgettable cultural experience. From the moment you leave the port, you’ll be immersed in the stories of the land, its people, and the histories that have shaped this unique region.

Travel across the lush countryside and over the Waipaoa River as your guide – a local Kaumātua (elder) – shares rich narratives that bring the landscape to life.

Your destination is Te Ōhako Marae, nestled among vineyard-covered hills. There, you’ll receive a heartfelt pōwhiri (traditional welcome), featuring the karanga (call of welcome), pūtatara (conch shell), wero (challenge), haka pōwhiri, speeches, waiata (song), and the hongi or hāruru – moments that create deep cultural connection.

Following the welcome, you’ll gain insight into the history of the marae and the legacy of the local hapū. There’s also time to enjoy local delicacies and browse beautifully handcrafted goods before heading back to the port.

This is more than a tour – it’s a genuine cultural encounter that stays with you.
