Gisborne has a growing craft beer scene, with a number of local breweries producing a range of delicious beers that showcase the unique flavours of the region. Their beers are brewed using traditional techniques and locally sourced ingredients.
The Gisborne wine region is relatively small, with around 2000 hectares of vineyards. The region has a mild maritime climate, with warm summers and cool winters, which is ideal for growing grapes. The soils in the region are mostly alluvial, which are fertile and well-draining. Gisborne’s wine region is also known as the “Chardonnay Capital of New Zealand” due to the quality of its Chardonnay grapes.
