Rere Falls Trail
Suitable for year-round travel | Spectacular in autumn and spring | Grade 3 – Intermediate
Imagine two days where every pedal stroke takes you further from the everyday and deeper into the heart of Tairāwhiti Gisborne’s backcountry. The Rere Falls Trail is more than just a ride – it’s a flowing journey of rolling hills, long downhill glides, and quiet roads where the only traffic might be a curious sheep or two.
The 100 km route – part of the Heartland Rides on the New Zealand Cycle Trails – winds through 29 km of gravel road, the crunch beneath your tyres a steady reminder you’re far from the main road. Along the way, nature and adventure collide: take a thrilling slide down the natural rock waterslide at Rere Rockslide, feel the spray from the tumbling Rere Falls, and wander the awe-inspiring grounds of Eastwoodhill Arboretum, home to the largest collection of Northern Hemisphere trees in the Southern Hemisphere.
Reward your efforts with a taste of the region’s finest – boutique wineries, a welcoming brewery, and warm hospitality that makes this corner of New Zealand unforgettable.
Ride your way – go fully supported with all the comforts, join a guided group for shared stories and local insight, or take the independent route and make the adventure your own.
Start and finish in vibrant Tairāwhiti Gisborne.
